Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakaram

 


The Government of India has launched Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakaram to motivate those who still deliver at home to opt for institutional delivery. This initiative comes with the hope that states will come forward and ensure that services under JSSK reach every needy pregnant woman who visits a government facility.

- With the number of deaths due to communicable and non-communicable diseases increasing at an alarming rate in the country, the government has introduced various programmes to help people fight these diseases.

In India, about 5.8 million people die every year due to diabetes, heart attacks, cancer, etc. In other words, for every 4 Indians, 1 has the risk of dying from a non-communicable disease before the age of 70.

According to the World Health Organisation, 1.7 million Indian deaths are due to heart disease.

The Government of India introduced on June 1, 2011.

The programme is estimated to benefit more than 12 million pregnant women who visit government health facilities for their deliveries. It will also motivate those who are still delivering at home to opt for institutional delivery. . This is an initiative in the hope that states will step forward and ensure that JSSK services reach every needy pregnant woman who visits a state facility. All states and territorial entities have begun implementing the programme.
